Trips and their round trips completely in a single day can be a quick relaxation and do not take more than 1-2 days of your working schedule. Hence there has been a rise in popularity for destinations near Hyderabad which can be visited and returned from in a single day. They can be friends-only attraction or can be visited with both family or friends.
Some are places of ancient ruins and culture, some are beautiful water bodies while some are simply viewpoints for a sunrises but are worth the drive. One day trips from Hyderabad can also offer unique experiences like camping, exploring traditional markets or visiting spiritual places which are not usually accessible within the city.
Ananthagiri hills:
Ananthagiri hills are hill ranges present in west Telangana near Vikarabad at about 100 km (2 hours drive)from Hyderabad. They are an ideal getaway during the monsoon or winter season when the area is covered in lush greenery and weather is soothingly cool. Known for its coffee plantations, astounding waterfalls, sunset viewpoints and trekking trails.
On the way up you can stop at Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Temple. You can also explore its various viewpoints and terrains if you are an off-road person.
The Kotepally reservoir about 30 km from the hills is a fantastic boating water body. Rent out single or double capacity paddling boat and have fun with your loved ones.
Somasila (Telangana):
Somasila is a village in the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, India. It is situated on the banks of the Krishna River and is known for its scenic beauty and the Somasila Dam. The beauty of its surroundings is enhanced during monsoon season. Somasila is all about the Krishna river backwaters, boating and peaceful stay at cottages.
It’s a religious place blessed with 15 Shiva temples and a penna river nearby. You can also go kayaking or a boat ride with your family. Additionally, there are cottages with views of the Penna River and a glimpse of an island. The resorts accept mostly online booking well in advance of the visit, so be sure to book your stay early. Trek up the hill if you’re an adventurer and take in the perspective of the entire island. It is really beautiful and breathtaking. The Kollapur Palace on the way to Somasila makes an interesting visit.
Bhongir Fort
Bhongir Fort, also known as Bhuvanagiri Fort, is a historic fort located in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, India. It is situated on a hilltop in the town of Bhongir, approximately 48 kilometers from Hyderabad.
The Bhongir fort offers an excellent panoramic perspective of the entire area after reaching its highest point. Visitors can find an impressive collection of armory, stables, trap doors and other tools of historical interest. On the peak of the fort, there are numerous ponds as well as a Hanuman shrine. Special hiking tours to ascend the fort are offered by the tourism department and adventurers.
Kondapochamma Reservoir:
Kondapochamma Reservoir, also known as Kondapochamma Sagar, is a large reservoir located in Siddipet district of Telangana. It is a a man-made water body that has gained poularity for it scenic beauty and serene surroundings.
It is a advisable to plan your visit on a weekday as it can get quite crowded on weekends. The best time of the day to visit is early morning for the sunrise and late evening for the sunset. Vehicle entry to the Embankment road is restricted most of the days so enquire before planning to go to the immediate perimeter of the reservoir. The stretch around the reservoir is about 15km and makes for a lovely bike ride.
Other activites like power paragliding are also common is the area. Take to the skies and experience the fantastic view of the water body and surrounding greenery.
Srisailam:
Srisailam is a famous hindu pilgrimage destination located amidst the Nallamalla hills of Andhra. You can reach Srisailam(about 215km) in 5-6 hours by car. Major attractions are the Srisailam Dam, Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Santuary and the tranquil environment you get surrounded by (ton of monkeys included).
The drive to Srisailam can be the USP of the trip with all the natural beauty around the ghats section. The Srisailam Dam is one of the most important hydroelectric projects in Andhra Pradesh. Make sure to check when the gates of the Srisailam Dam will be lifted so you can make it in time for the wonderful experience you can have watching it. You can also experience the ropeway ride at Pathala Ganga. Pathala Ganga is a sacred place near the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple where Lord rama is said to have held funeral rites for Jatayu from the epic Ramayana.
